When working with medical imaging, most hospitals use a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS in short) to store all the images that come from the different devices that are scattered over the hospital. X-Ray machines, Computerized Axial Tomography, Magnetic Resonance or Ultrasound equipment. However, there are two recurring scenarios in many hospitals:
- Not all the machines can be connected to the PACS due to hardware or software incompatibility and/or
- the video generated by many of these devices cannot be played back in the PACS and you have to personally go to the machine to watch it on-site.
Both issues are a less-than-ideal situation when dealing with a patient, as both require the doctor to move through the hospital in order to gather all the information he or she needs to make an accurate diagnostic.
